2008 Funding Awards Announced!

The New GVRPC Headquarters

Genesee Valley Rural Preservation Council, Inc., and Letchworth Development Corp. Headquarters

Governor Paterson Announces $137 Million in funding awards by the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) that will help build and preserve 6,415 units of affordable housing – nearly twice the number of units created and preserved by DHCR last year.

Based in Mt. Morris, Genesee Valley Rural Preservation Council, Inc. (GVRPC) a private, not-for-profit housing agency serving western New York since 1983, has been awarded $700,000 in HOME Funds, $1.7 million in Housing Trust Funds (HTFC) and $359,083 in Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) as part of the Governor’s funding announcement.

HTFC and LIHTC capital awards totaling nearly $2 million to GVRPC’s subsidiary Letchworth Development Corp. will be combined with financing from USDA Rural Development and private sources to fund the construction of a new 32-unit congregate apartment complex for elderly and disabled in the Town of Southport, Chemung County.   Construction of Park Terrace Congregate Apartments is scheduled to begin in spring 2009, with occupancy in the fall.  GVRPC will manage the apartments.

HOME funds will provide another $400,000 for a continuation of GVRPC’s first-time homebuyer programs in Livingston and Wyoming Counties with a projected 34 first-time homebuyers receiving a maximum of $15,000 grant for down payment and closing cost assistance on the purchase of an existing home.

GVRPC has also been awarded $300,000 for Livingston - Genesee Home Access II. This program will make accessibility adaptations to 15 homes in both Livingston and Genesee Counties.  These adaptations will make it possible for people to remain in their homes instead of having to go to a nursing home or other institutional setting.

These latest awards increase GVRPC’s total of housing investment and services in a four-county area to over $60 million, with over 850 families served in housing programs and over 632 families housed in quality, affordable rental units.

Genesee Valley Rural Preservation Council’s housing programs and rental units serve very low, low- and moderate- income households in Livingston, Wyoming, Genesee and Chemung Counties.  For more information about GVRPC’s housing programs, please call 585-658-4860.
